Everyday Food Storage: Sourdough Waffles with Strawberries: Food Storage Recipes

  • Roger · 1 year ago
I used to put Cool Whip and strawberries on waffles for special occasions, but then I tried vanilla yogurt instead and it is so yummy! And I figure the yogurt has got to be better for you than the Cool Whip, so now we have it once a week or so. It's also really yummy with frozen berries. It's my favorite breakfast. I love waffles, I'll have to try this recipe. I LOVE your blog too. It is so fun, I check it every day. I get disappointed when there is not a new post, but remind myself that you probably have to take time off to eat, sleep, take care of family and shop for groceries (or open more #10 cans) so you can make more wonderful recipes. Thanks for all you do!

Conference Weekend is always a special time at our house - with at least one of our children and their family returning home to watch/listen and share the spirit!

With a husband and DILs who LOVE to cook, too - it is always a time of wonderful food and family!

Thank you for a wonderful website!

way smake homemade cinnamon rolls for Saturday morning session. And we have a pre-confererence FHE the Monday before, introduce and highlight conference, and I hand out packets for the kids I have put together....new crayons, little treat, etc. Kind of make it a hi-hoorah kind of deal. They love it!

I love the idea you have, thanks for sharing!

Help! I grew up with Sourdough waffles and my mom gave me a starter years ago, but we had to dump it when we moved across country. I know that you are supposed to save a small amount each time you make a batch, but I didn't see you taking any out. Do you not have to save some of the starter for the next time?

Growing up I lived in the midwest and even when they did boadcast it on cable out there we never had cable so we always went to the chapel to watch general confrence and my parents were so good to take all 7 of us to all 4 sessions. Between sessions on Saturday we would go to Old Country Buffet for lunch which was a treat because eating out with 7 kids was a rare event and then between sessions on Sunday we would have a picnic that my mom would pack, most of the time outside on the grass if it was warm enough this tradition eventually started to include others form my extended family and then grew to include others from our wards for a potluck! Living in las vegas with 2 little ones of my own it is kind of convienient to be able to sit at home and watch confrence but I miss the fellowship that comes from attending at the church and the formality of dressing up.

We always have a yummy Omlette buffet. My parents started doing this while I was young and I've carried it on, we do it with our kids. It's so fun to fill the counter with bowls of yummy toppings and let everyone make up a bowl of what they want, then we fry up the omlette and eat away, so yummy!

I'm excited to try your waffle recipe, sounds so wonderful!

Since I can remember my dad has made crepes for breakfast the Sunday morning of GC. Because we all still live close to home the tradition continues with grandkids. Melted cheese crepes with salsa are the favorites. We also fill them with fresh or bottled fruit and Cool Whip.

Conference weekend is a great time to share together as a family. We usually have cinnamon rolls on saturday morning, breakfast casserole on sunday morning (eggs, bread, milk, mustard powder, sausage etc...) and we picnic in the living room on a blanket with individual sack lunches (sandwich, juice pouch, chips, and treat bag filled with goodies that are suppose to last). We also try and have a conference packet to work on and give out prizes for most complete etc... Thanks for your great ideas.

When replacing the yogurt with 1 Tablespoon active yeast, do you need to add any other liquid?
    My starter seemed really dry.
  • Crystal · 1 year ago
    Marissa,

It shouldn't be that dry. Did you still add the milk? Did it work for you? Let me know! Thanks!

I am making up the starter right now using yeast. It's the consistency of pizza dough. Does it need more liquid?
  • vennesa · 2 months ago
Was the one TB yeast a substitute for the yogurt or only for the active cultures? I replaced the yogurt with yeast. It's thick like dough. I don't see how I'll be able to make waffles with it. Help!!

Why not vanilla yogurt? Wouldn't the cultures still work? Is it just a matter of taste?
  • eatfoodstorage · 2 months ago
The cultures still work, it's just a taste thing.
